Elizabeth Kertz
Hi I’m Elizabeth and I am an independent consultant and researcher with a Ph.D. in Human Factors. I live in Wichita, KS, where I moved to when I was accepted into their graduate program. Although I love human factors, lately I’ve been doing more art than consulting.
I never hung out in, or even near, the art department in college. I was always in the Science, Math, Physics, and Computer buildings. Odd that I would get into something so different from my degrees. Once I found Altered Books (ABs) in 2002, the world changed for me. I only wanted to learn about collage, assemblage, and ABs. This new artform has really changed my life in many positive ways, and for that I’ll be eternally grateful.
My new lifestyle hasn’t lined my pockets with gold, so many of the projects I make use recycled products. You won’t find a lot of complicated or expensive products in my art. Most of what I will demo will incorporate freebies and found objects. So in that respect, I am probably different from most of the other UHU Gluers. In fact, I’ve often been called the Queen of Free, a name I am proud of, especially now that everyone has become more “earth friendly.” Of course, I was born on Earth Day, so it was only appropriate that I should champion the cause celebrated on my birthday each year.
Now I love sharing my knowledge and techniques I’ve learned. I guess it comes from being a teaching assistant while I attended Wichita State University. One thing I learned about teaching is, you must be specific with your instructions. And, you must be enthusiastic about your subject matter, which I definitely am with UHU glue.
Elizabeth
